I felt seasick. I went to bed after looking in the same cupboard 20x for cookies, biscuits, anything, but felt that that was a new low, even for me. I considered eating some sugar straight from the jar, but why bother?

Anyway, now it’s my day off but I’ve come to realize that weekends are the blackest form of perfidy - sure, it’s day off, but weekends are just domestic work days - cleaning, grocery-gettting, laundry.

Also, it’s raining again - which makes me want to curl up on the couch with the X-Files. I really enjoy watching Mulder and Scully caught in the same rain I can’t escape.

I am going to drink tea, eat oreos, and watch X-files. I wish you lived around here and could come over in pyjamas and hang out with me and watch them - it is funner with someone who knows all about what is going on. It would also be fun to do a Twin Peaks night…also, oddly, Oreos are vegan.

I don’t think I am going to eat dinner. Oreos only.

I’ve been taking the bus since my car is in the shop, and I suppose this happens to anyone who walks a long-lived neighborhood regularly, but I was absolutely struck this morning as I walked through town by the fact that I seem to have a relationship with just about every house in my small town, even though I don’t know the people in most of them.

Every house and yard had a point of reference that I mentally recalled as I walked. There is the place my friends D+M have lived since the 80’s. There is the house where a woman came out to see my goat when I was walking her on a leash after work one night 10 years ago. Next to it is the house where drug dealers used to live. Now this next place, I remember when it was remodeled, it’s so much bigger now. Oh, here’s the guy who sells lawnmowers who isn’t my friend who sells lawnmowers. Yuck, I was in that old house once, right before it was gutted and completely rebuilt; so filthy and kind of scary it was. Lydia used to rent that little bitty house on the corner, I wonder whatever happened to her. Look at this nice blue house, it has sat empty for 20 years, ever since the So and So’s moved away; I wonder why no one has moved in? I saw a black and white cat that looked just like my cat in front of that white house once. Wow, they still have their propane tank.

And so it was, with every place I passed. I had a little story in my head about every single one of them.

i do work that is called “community development” and i am trying to capture community stories right now or a community identity and i am exploring all the ways that we can do that. i am really into geo-locating or whatever that term is that you can do that on google maps but that seems to be the grossest way of doing that. keri smith talks about love maps in her book guerrilla art where you can create the map of your town with the stories about your favourite spots or the stories you know — i have been thinking about these ideas non-stop and then i see this post in the dashboard this morning.

it is a great way to turn my brain on.

we are starting a review of my program this week and i have been having night terrors about it. like where my manager is yelling at me saying that i am responsible for us losing all of our funding and when i wake up i have blankets wrapped around my neck and i am all sweaty and i know that i was just yelling and grinding my teeth into my skull. i don’t feel like i can do enough planning, enough research, enough development work for this kind of review — i am not like you and the rabbit where i can really debate and argue and be confident in my knowledge — even though i breathe my work all the time. I am a total idealogue — maybe that is why I am not great at debating my work related ideas… got any insight on that?

I suppose there is a lesson in not sharing your blog with your friends and family who are inclined to make fun of you. Especially if you are like me: way too sensitive.

I took the cowardly route and just changed the address to avoid these kinds of mishaps in the future. I don’t even want to go to the trouble of a protracted discussion.

I don’t think this will make a difference whatsoever to those of you who are following me, only for those who visit my blog from a bookmark.

I don’t share my blog with anyone from IRL and sometimes I think that’s unnecessary, but I have always wanted to be freed from the constraints of my history with people, and also remove myself from their concern; that is, I want to be able to talk freely without anyone feeling they need to ‘do something’.

I suppose I could be made fun of, too, though I’ve already learned to just not mention Ryan Adams to anyone IRL anymore, and let them assume it was ’just a phase’ rather than get the eye-rolling discomfort that seemed to greet even the most innocuous comments about him or his work.

I don’t see why anyone would make fun of the contents of your blog; you are one of the most consistently enjoyable people I follow, and between the closeups of things in your home, the rare curiosities and obscure facts, and the images of rabbits, what the fuck is not to love about your Tumblr?

In any case, I love your new blog name and I’m sorry you have insensitive people in your life. Tell ‘em melanyouth says STFU already. Ha!

I just started noticing that even my blog is more interesting when I actually contribute things about my real life but it strikes a chord of fear in my heart - to include the bits from IRL - but I love the new name and I love the blog - I find I learn so much from reading both of you - so keep it up - you are my favourite spots on the blog roll and I am so appreciative of yous every day.
